Distance Learning Rock

For this project, I worked with my partner to write an online school themed parody of Elton John’s "Crocodile Rock", which we titled "Distance Learning Rock". After deciding on a song with my partner, we began drafting ideas. I thought that we could make a pun based on the fact that the Freestyle Academy website was "freestyleacademy.rocks", fitting the "Crocodile Rock" lyrics of the song. When thinking of Freestyle Academy related lyrics, we realized that our whole experience has been online, and that it might just be easier to make our theme the more general topic of online school.

A new challenge I encountered during this project was coordinating a group project with somebody I never got to see in person, which I was able to overcome easily through phone calls and text messages, though I would have much preferred to work together in person, especially when it came to the audio editing stage, so that we could play small sections for each other and fix them on the spot. If I were to start this project again, I might choose a song that was slower and at a pitch easier to sing in, so that I wouldn’t have to sing the lyrics incoherently, making some of the lines hard to understand. I am proud of how I edited the song, with the two verses and the chorus flowing naturally, and the beginning and end of the song happening very smoothly.

I learned a lot of technical things during this project during this activity, which I will be able to use throughout my time at Freestyle Academy for various projects involving audio editing. I can use what I learned while working with a partner for future group projects during online learning, such as using screen sharing apps to get instant feedback on my work. This project helped me realize the amount of time and effort that is put into audio editing, and how much of a difference a little more effort can make in a piece of audio. (adding plugins, etc.)
